Pottery from A to Z (15h)

Suitable for: complete beginners, anyone who has attended the Taster Course, or those with some previous pottery experience who would like to develop their skills and understand the entire process. This course is designed to help you build a solid foundation for creating independently (for example at home or at a coworking studio). 

No previous experience is needed. During this 15-hour course, you’ll explore every stage of making pottery - from preparing the clay to decorating and glazing your finished pieces.

The course is divided into a total of 5 sessions (about 3hrs each):

• session 1: learning the foundations of the process, preparing the clay and making your first piece(s)
• sessions 2-3: refining throwing skills and learning how to trim leather-hard pieces
• session 4: decorating in the leather-hard stage, making and attaching handles to mugs
• session 5: painting on bisque-fired pieces and/or glazing using different methods (brush-on and dipping)

The sessions DO NOT need to take place on consecutive days. We can schedule them however you need or even combine two of them into one if you'd prefer.

During the course, you’ll learn:

• how to prepare and wedge clay
• how to centre clay on the pottery wheel
• how to open up the clay and pull up the walls
• how to throw simple bowls and vessels
• how to trim and refine your pieces
• how to make and attach handles to mugs
• different decorating techniques
• how to glaze bisque-fired pottery

Because the pieces need time to dry and be fired between stages, the course takes place over several sessions. This gives you more time to practice, work on your own creations and understand how a piece progresses from raw clay to finished pottery.

The course is taught individually or for two people, allowing plenty of space for personal guidance. Your finished pieces will be ready to collect after their final firing.
